2005 - 'SHAKESPEARE'S SISTERS' - by Jonathan Shelley

….If music be the food of love, it goes straight to your hips’…

Lady Macbeth and Titania are bemoaning their relationships. Macbeth always seemed so dynamic and ambitious, but lately in time of peace for Scotland, he has taken to lazing about the castle in his pants and watching puppet shows.

Titania’s marriage with Oberon has always been fiery, being immortals they can afford to fall out, storm and sulk, and then enjoy the making up. On a girl’s night out Titania weaves her magic with the weather and she and Lady M cause a little havoc in the World of the Works.

A traveller from Italy, deposited by magical typhoon in Scotland asks for shelter.

It is Beatrice from Messina, recently split from her Husband Benedick, and in the middle of a trial separation and a gap year to cruise the World. Lady Macbeth and Titania take to Beatrice immediately, and resolve to find her perfect match, and engineer a love for her so perfect that it will give hope to half the World, and make the other half work a bit harder.

Taking Beatrice’s details, and those of her perfect mate, by magic, guile and advertising they scour the cannon of their world for a suitable partner.. Kings, princes, vagabonds, lovers and Heroes come from all corners of the shipman’s card to try to woo this Beatrice of Messina… But why do half of them look like her ex husband Benedick?

Will Beatrice find her perfect mate?
Will lady Macbeth get her Thane to pull himself together?
Will Titania and Oberon ever grow up?

Or, is this love already? – Is this ‘As good as it gets’?
